AJ McBay’s work is denoted by their color palettes and dark dynamic lines. Drawing inspiration from nature’s distinct colors, their works range from modern graphic design to zestful semi-realistic self portraits. Their graphic art is reminiscent of modernized poster art with usually black lines for outlines. In contrast, their self portraits consist mainly of a body of work they did titled “The 7 Stages of Grief” and each of the seven pieces feature a sepia glazing. During their time at Southern Arkansas University, they obtained their Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Graphic Design just after finishing High School in their home town, Fouke, Arkansas. It’s there that they were once a young designer and even now, pulled inspiration from their surroundings and current events in their life. Creating always came naturally, they would draw from life but would start taking it seriously around 2015. The first real spark came from media they’d consumed on TV, the internet, and the public, stating “I wanted to replicate my own versions of things… how I saw them because no one could get it right.” Being able to share those experiences is what AJ strives for. Not only for relatability but also as a statement for those memories, experiences, etc. and the emotions that come with them.
